This is how the vegetable garden looks like right now. We have already collected some padron peppers which are great made in the pan with a little bit of cooking salt. The tomatoes are not ready still, some of them specially the cherry tomatoes are just about turning red. Lettuces have not flowered yet and we are still picking leaves to make nice and fresh salads.

semanas.
I've been saving some 2 litre plastic bottles during the winter to do several things. First of all, they are useful to cover the new saplings. You just have to wash te bottles very well so thedont atrackt insects, take off the lid and cut the base. This way, the plant can breathe and it's protected from frosts and hail, it's like a small greenhouse. This year I have jus used them with pepper plants because las t year lots of them did not resist the last frosts.
Something else I did'nt want to use the bottles for, is a snale and slugs trap. Some of my lettuces, spinach and even a mint plant desapeared. So I used the bottom part of the bottles to fill them up with beer, and in the first night the traped five slugs. So I hope this is enough to keep them away.

Huerto urbano 2011 (Urban vegetable garden 2011)
This year my friend Ismael has given me a few good quality saplings. three kinds of tomatoes, letuces, spinaches and padron peppers. As I haven't got a plot where I can plant my vegetables I have chosen economic containers as fruit boxes and old flowerpots. You can use almost anything you want as long as it has a good amount of space for the plant to develop.

Huerto preparado (prepaired vegetable garden)
Misson accomplished. At the end of last summer I said I was going to do a high terrace to plant different kinds of lettuce, spinach ... Well, I have it all prepaired, with my little plants all inside. As always, the weather affects me negatively, last year it snowed, this year I've had a halestorm. Even though the result is this ...
