Ficha olivo bonsai (Olive tree bonsai file)

Olive trees are so typical in Spain that are worth mentioning. They become from Asia, but are very extended in the Mediterranean. Very used in the bonsai world for its curly shapes and to apply the jin technique.
Situation: Full sun, keep the earth always wet. It's a very hard tree and it can bear occasionally frosts.
Watering and fertilizing: Avoid flooding the tree or let it completely dry. Fertilize it in the growing season. Don't fertilize it when it is just transplanted, wait until the first branches start to come out.
Transplant: Every 2 or 3 years, 2 years for young trees and 3 for mature ones. Do it in spring, before it begins to grow.
Pruning: The olive tree bears it very well. Branches come out well from old wood. Prune branches and roots at the same time as transplanting. When we cut the end of a branch to the length we need, if we take all the leafs in the branch, new small branches will come out from the buds.
Wiring: Between spring and autumn, taking care that the wires don't encrust the wood.
Reproduction: Easy to reproduce by seeds or cuttings.
